Summary

One day, Winterbourne went to Switzerland to visit his aunt. His aunt was stayed at a hotel. When he sat down on the garden, an American boy came to him and ask him lump sugar. Winterbourne and the boy, Randolph, started their conversation and his sister named Daisy Miller come to pick him up. But, Randolph didn’t want to get back. Daisy Miller started to enjoy the conversation between her and Winterbourne. Daisy Miller told Winterbourne her story, about her family, her life, and her gentleman friends. Winterbourne mystified by Daisy Miller. Winterbourne felt he never meet any lady like Daisy, as lively as her. Daisy told Winterbourne that she want to go to the Castle de Chillon, but no one accompany her to go there. Then, Winterbourne asked Daisy to go with him.

Then Winterbourne went to meet his aunt who got headache. He told his aunt about Miss Daisy Miller, but Mrs. Costello refused to meet Daisy Miller. She said Daisy Miller is not lady because her behavior toward gentleman, even for their courier. After their meeting at the garden, they met again near the lake. Daisy walked alone around the lake. Winterbourne asked Daisy about her mother and Daisy said that her mother try to make Randolph fall asleep. And then, her mom suddenly came. At the first time Mrs. Miller didn’t like Winterbourne because Daisy had a lot of gentleman friends. Winterbourne asked Mrs. Miller permission to get Daisy Miller with him to go the Castle de Chillon. Next day, after their short visited to Castle de Chillon, Winterbourne must go back to Geneva. But Daisy wouldn’t let Winterbourne to go back to Geneva. Finally, after short talking, Daisy let Winterbourne go back to Geneva and meet her again in Rome.

When Winterbourne arrived in Rome, he visited his old friend, her name is Mrs. Walker. She was American Lady who already spent several winter in Rome. Daisy and Winterbourne met again after such a long time. But Daisy seemed different to Winterbourne. Winterbourne already heard about Daisy and her gentleman friends. Daisy said she will meet her friend, his name is Mr. Giovanelli. He was an Italian gentleman. Winterbourne accompanied her to see Mr. Giovanelli and the three of them walk on the street. Winterbourne started to ask Daisy a lot of question about the Italian gentleman, but Daisy get pretty angry with that. Not after a long time, Mrs. Walker got close to them. Mrs. Walker warned Daisy about her reputation but she refused to hear all of it and decided to take a walk with Mr. Giovanelli.

After Winterbourne attended Mrs. Walker’s party, he takes a walk around the Colosseum. He saw a couple sit there. Slightly, he heard what the couple talk about. He recognized Daisy’s voice. Winterbourne showed himself in front of them and then ask Miss Daisy to go home because of the night air can bring the Rome fever. Daisy said she will be okay because her courier has splendid medicine. Mr. Giovanelli who stand right beside her try to persuade her get because he brave enough with the air. A few days after that, Daisy got really sick and she finally died. Before her dead, Daisy gives her mom message to pass to Winterbourne. After a year live in Europe, he began to understand what Daisy’s mean and then he comeback to Geneva and live like he was before.
